Dreamers have been hard at work all week, spring cleaning, building their new office for
empowerment and cutting new doors to 6' to comply with the city code for a fence.
Third Graders Will Join "Doors of Opportunity" Painting Party at Right 2 Dream Too ~ Community Steps Up For Creative Fundraiser
PORTLAND, OREGON – May 31, 2013 – Right 2 Dream Too will host
a painting party and fundraiser this Sunday.
The group is replacing and repainting the
doors that make up the fence for R2DToo, just in time for the Rose Festival. The event will help spruce up the rest area at NW 4th and Burnside and raise
money at the same time. For a $100
donation organizations or individuals can sponsor a door and paint it to uniquely express their support for social justice.
At 2pm, a class of third graders from Creative Science
School will be painting their own door. Two students raised money with a lemonade
stand earlier this spring and decided to sponsor a door with their funds. “We are so glad to have so much support from
the community,” says Amber Dunks, who is an organizer for R2DToo. “Portland Jobs with Justice, St. Mary's High
School, Larson Legacy, Faithful Fools of San Francisco, and the workers from
Red & Black Cafe are also donating money and sponsoring doors. I can’t wait to see what they paint. ”
Representatives from these groups and others will be on site during the day. Residents of Right 2 Dream Too, who call themselves ‘the Dreamers’, will be giving tours and celebrating their hard work leading up to this day. Since late May Dreamers have been working with Village Building Convergence organizers to rebuild the existing fence and install planters on the inside.

Since it was
founded in October 2011, Right 2 Dream Too has provided a
safe and welcoming place to sleep for hundreds of people experiencing
houselessness. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards R2DToo’s
operating expenses, which include utilities, laundry, taxes, and paying
for
fines that the City of Portland has imposed on the group for allegedly
violating
recreational camping ordinances.
